Global Change – Consequences for the economic use of the ocean

Climate and ocean belong together. The effects of global change on the oceans and its economic use have become more and more visible recently. The economic use of the oceans comprises tourism, fisheries, shipping or offshore oil and gas production. The maritime industries are affected directly - negatively, but in some cases positively - by sea-ice decline, sea-level rise, extreme weather events and ocean acidification.

KEI develops research projects on these climate change impacts and will develop suggestions for a sustainable adaption of the maritime economy on these challenges.
